A unit can be said as a standard quantity of a physical property. Properties or quantities referred to here, for example, such as velocity, mass and length. Units are used to quantify these properties. For one and the same quantity, we can use different units. For example, to measure body mass, we generally uses kilograms, while Americans tend to use the pound for this.
The use of one type of measurement unit for certain quantity has obvious drawbacks. For example: the distance between two places and a person's height represents the same quantity, namely the length. If we use only one unit of length for measuring both of them would be impractical. Use centimeters to measure the distance between the two cities will generate a very large value that can exceed 6 digit of numbers, while to measure human body height in kilometers clearly yields a measurement value close to zero. Of course, these things are not practical.
With so many types of units, a system is needed to regulate the relationship between these units. This system is known as the System of Measurement. How the value of one unit represents the value of another unit is what meant by unit conversion . Each unit has a different and sometimes complicated mathematical relationship.
